Jenn at her home studio in Hutto, TX

Jennifer Brazell is a painter residing in Hutto, TX with her husband and two children. After spending a few years painting as a way to decompress after the kids were in bed, she decided to delve deeper by teaching herself art fundamentals and how to use various media. The next few years were spent exploring what subject matter seemed to stick. As a lover of interior design, she eventually gravitated toward painting objects around the home. This still-life practice grew into what it is today - an investigation of the relationship between our everyday environments and the human experience.

Artist Statement:

“I am interested in how personal environment affects well-being and mental health. As an introvert who has struggled with anxiety since childhood, crafting a space of my own served as a constant refuge from a world and interactions that often left me feeling depleted. This is where my deep love of home, and all the things that go in it, began. In my art, I want to illustrate scenes that evoke feelings of solace and familiarity. I start each piece with a pencil sketch of a domestic interior or item. Using acrylic gouache, oils, pastels, and collaged fabric I then make careful, instinctual decisions about colors, patterns, and textures. In my most recent work, I am exploring how a view into a room or a depiction of a treasured item can bring to mind a narrative of our individual human experience.”

Jennifer has exhibited at Art for the People in Austin, TX, Georgetown Art Center in Georgetown, TX, Var Gallery in Milwaukee, WI, and Soft Times Gallery in San Francisco, CA among others. She was also a studio artist at Stay Home Gallery & Residency in 2022.
